The 2014 French SUP Racing Championships took place last weekend in Quiberon on the country’s west coast of France and have attracted all the big names from the powerhouse nation of European SUP.
Saturday saw the Long Distance and Sunday the Course Race. Once again 17 year old Arthur Arutkin dominated both and is now the new French Long Distance & Beach Race Champion! Arthur’s winning time was one and a half minutes faster than his nearest competitor on Saturday, however on Sunday, despite the shorter course, he finished with an even bigger lead. Strong winds produced a “sidewinder” for the Long Distance, the conditions were also tough for the Course Race. There were consistent 4-5ft waves, which created plenty of carnage around the course. Several of the competitors said it reminded them of the Battle of the Paddle at Salt Creek last month. Arthur mastered the waves better than anyone, finishing exactly two minutes clear in the Long Distance and capping off a huge weekend.
Well done Arthur – what a great performance and it´s certainly no small feat to beat guys like Eric Terrien and Titouan Puyo!
