Hi Vela,
Congratulations! Nice choice, i really like that board and use it a lot myself...
I always place the mastfoot more or less in the middle of the masttrack, with the smaller sails a litte back from the middle.
The Footstraps i have the frontstraps in the second hole from the front and the back strap in the last hole. Probably for you it will feel a little bit better in the second last hole, as i'm 180cm. This setting should be good for your first two points. For the third point i would recommend to move the mast a little forward from the middle, to get going a bit earlier with the 5.2
The fin i always put a bit forward from the middle of the finbox.
Have fun with your new board!
Cheers,
Klaas

Hi Vela,

The 76 Newave is a really nice board,it is 1 of my favourite boards from all the range.

I use the mast base position a little bit farther back from the middle of the box and I use to use it very much in the same position. If I use it more to the front the board seats a bit to low and it doesn´t feel as free.

The strap position.I´m 1.84cm height and I normally use the 1 position from the front and the 2 from the back.Almost all the way separate.I like to have distance cause I seat lower and I have more control on the board.

The fin position I use it in the middle of the box when is side onshore and a bit farther forward for sideshore.

I hope my advice can help you, enjoy your new board¡

Best,

Hi,

only to add that by no means I am new to this sport but with your help would like to find the sweet spot as soon as possible.

To further comment that last year when renting equipment in Gran Canaria I have been told that on current Fanatics the correct mast foot position is the center of the mast trach regardless of sail size.........this really surprised me. Is this true?

Hi all, as an added service to help customers find good fins for our Falcon Slalom and Speed boards, we have added a Sonntag fin selector, similar to the one on offer from Select. Have tried the fins quite a bit and I must say I really like them, also quite a few of our national riders using them, one of the main testers is Patrick van Hoof, multiple Belgian champion - he should also be able to support on any questions here about the fins.

Feedback on 2012 Falcons continues to roll in and I must say more positive than ever!

Hi there,

Presume you are in Australia as per the user id, ka43? We usually send out the first batch of production boards to Australia/NZ/South Africa as your season starts earlier than Europe - and during the first batch we noticed the colour was not quite as dark as we had hoped, so we changed the paint colour to a darker pantone, but it´s really just one shade darker. So no difference in weight/construction.

Glad you like the board, sailed it recently in Cape Town and loved it!

A friend and I have Falcon 99's with serial no's 1 and 2 out of the factory (pretty happy about that). The paint job is the sanded carbon look with the two "crop circles" or extra reinfordement on the deck between mast base and back pads.
A couple of new ones I have seen are all dark grey.
Is there any difference or is it just cosmetic??
There seems to be no difference in weight??
Just curious. Love this board, its awesome!!!

Will a 9.4 or 5.2 have a lot of advantage for me with this boardquiver?

Hi there,

Glad you like it - so it´s just a question of your needs in terms of waveriding - some riders really focus on tightest turns possible/Quad, others are more focussed on the overall performance in planing, speed, waveriding is not biggest priority. That´s the advantage of having a few wave shapes.

Hi Mark,

The 140 takes the 9.4 and 8.6 really good. The 9.4 never feels too big, it feels really well balanced for the board.
On the 125 the 9.4 goes good too but it will be more on the edge of feeling too big if the wind is very light. On the 125 on the other hand you can go easy with the 7.8 if needed. On the 140 the 7.8 feels too small...

When we did some testing in extremely light winds I remember the 140 being superior mainly in upwind and power feel. Obviously is a bigger board, can handle bigger fins and bigger sails.
I think that it depends what size board you have after this and how often you sail with the 9.4.
Even the 140 is pretty wide 85, it handles very good 15-18 kts..Most of the time i can be on 7.8 and 113 when i am still ok on the 140 and 8.6.

The 8.6 I am using the 490 platinum and sometimes i use the gold, i find that both have good stiffness, not too soft. I am not putting a lot of downhaul on the sails..try that.

Hi Leon,

Correct- our team riders typcially choose (for PWA where only 3 boards allowed, 6 sails), to ride 140/113/89 - they will ride the 140 and 113 both with a 8.6, but switching boards when it starts to get windier - so it has a good range. and for sailing over 20knots, no doubt the 113/111 are the better choices.Just make sure you can buy a 111, as we are sold out since last April of that model...:-) 113 2012 is available....

Hi,

Thanks for all the help so far.
I changin my mind again :P And was thinking maybe in my case 111 will be better as will use it also alot in gusty conditions. And then also can use the board when the wind is getting stronger than 20knots or it's to gusty for my 90l.

As i see it now:

121L = big wind range, more low wind orientated instead of gusty condiotions
111L = Less low wind range and performance as 121L but better in gusty conditions and more speed potential.

Hi Gonzalo,

the pictures are looking good, full control!

A question on 125 vs 140 as biggest slalomboard. What are the ideal sailsizes and how would you compare early planing and range of both?

A question on the 8.6, what mastsize are you using? Is 490 not to soft for light wind?

Hi there,

Generally we reccomend our Fly allrounders for mainly flat water, plus wave use. For someone as experienced as you describe, as well as being relatively light and for small waves as main focus - I would go straight to the Allwave - similar widths to the Fly Allrounders, but more wave oriented shapes and also fine for paddling on flat water.

Go for the Allwave 9'2", that is for sure more than big enough, in fact for your weights, the 8'10 is maybe also an option as they are fairly wide - advantage of the smaller boards is better manouvrability, but also transport easier by car/plane with a few less cm...:-)

Weights we are trying to avoid the same issues we see in windsurfing, with customers becoming totally transfixed by a few gramms, also with SUP´s having so much surface area, there are quite high tolerances in weight. But for the Allwave 8'10" and 9'2", you could expect weights approx 9,6/10,2kg. For the 10/10'6" Fly´s, approx 11,5/12kg, with 0,5-1kg lighter approx for the Wood versions. That is however just a guide, as mentioned there are tolerances.

Hi Willy, don't know if you got the board painted already but you may try this. First a spray of black paint then a touch of silver. Be careful to protect the white dots with tape or wax. If you can't find Pantone 877 as indicated you may use WarHammer paint. It is water-soluble but becomes waterproof after drying. You can speed up the process with an hairdryer. When completely dry you may water-sand the spot gently to match the dark bottom color. This will be the most delicate part. Diluted solvant may also work but I would avoid that. A spray of varnish will complete the job.
