Colgate World Cup Sylt-Sensational Results for Fanatic!

Sensation Results for the Fanatic Team at the 2008 Sylt World Cup with podium positions in all disciplines!!! Victor Fernandez wins the wave discipline in epic North Sea conditions, Klaas Voget scores 3rd and Jonas Ceballos 4th! This is Victor´s second win of the season, 2 out of three events and as in 2007, crowned Vice World Champion 2008 PWA Waves. For Klaas Voget, 3rd place in the biggest PWA Wave event of the year is a sensational result, shooting him up to 6th overall for the year on the 2008 PWA Wave Tour. Jonas Ceballos finished in a fine fourth place overall on Sylt, which means he steps onto the podium for the Overall PWA Tour, in third place, his best result ever!

Nayra Alonso survived some equipment failure in the rough conditions to earn an equal third place in the Women´s wave Event on Sylt this year, ending the year on the podium in overall third place in the PWA Womens Wave Tour! Cyril Moussilmani and Arnon Dagan both put up solid fights on Sylt, to finish 3rd and 5th respectively, with Cyril ending 5th on the PWA Slalom Tour.

Finally Gollito Estredo with his second place on Sylt, dominated the Freestyle World Tour this year, with 2 firsts and 2 seconds, taking his second Freestyle World Title!

On the Fanatic Pit Stop tent at the beach the Fanatic Team was again busy to sign posters and co. and people crowded in front of the Fanatic booth to gather one of them. Also the daily lucky draw was again one of the highlight. The lucky winner went home with his prizes like T-Shirts, Caps, signed Promo DVDs Addicted to Ride & more;-)

Event Preview 25.09.08:

Celebrating 25 years of competition since the birth of the seminal Sylt World Cup, the 2008 season will reach its final destination on the historic sands of Brandenburger Strand, from Sept 26 – Oct 05. Nine days of Super Grand Slam competition will witness the women’s fleet battling it out for the Wave Title, while the men’s fleet engage in all three PWA disciplines; Wave, Freestyle and Slalom.

Massive crowds barely sum up what can be expected at Sylt. In 2007, over 190,000 fans turned up to watch the action, which saw in excess of 100 PWA stars competing. This year looks set to be bigger and better.

Fanatic will also be present again with a tent at the Pit Stop Lane showing the latest 2009 boards and handing brochures, DVDs and of course autograph posters from all our riders, so don´t miss visiting us there!

In the Womens discipline for sure last year’s event winner Nayra Alonso (Fanatic, Severne), currently ranked 5th, is one of heavy weight contender for the 2008 Wave Title. Nayra adapts her sailing well to the unpredictable Sylt conditions, and will be hungry to make this her second year on the top of the podium.

In the Mens Wave Fanatic´s Victor Fernandez (Fanatic, Simmer, MFC) is sitting in second place. Victor was runner up in the 2007 season having lost the title by just one heat, however this certainly doesn’t suggest he’ll occupy the same spot this year. Faultless execution of the Pozo crown in July sees Fernandez enter Sylt on a high. A betting man would definitely fancy his chances with this 24 year old all rounder.

The battle for the 2008 Freestyle World Title is very much a two horse race between Marcilio Browne and Gollito Estredo (Fanatic, North, MFC). Estredo lost out on the 2007 title to Browne, in a nail biting double elimination that saw the title decided on the result of a single heat. Estredo won the event, but Browne the World Title. This year the situation is equally close, but somewhat more technical. For Browne to retain the World Title, he has to win the event, and hope for Estredo to finish in fifth place or lower. Should Browne finish in second, he’d lose out to Gollito. With 2/3 victories so far this season and a 2nd place on Fuerte (with an injured foot) Gollito is certainly the favourite for the Freestyle title!

Finally the overall Constructors ranking is also far from Finalised, Fanatic is lying just 2.5 points behind Starboard with 24.5 points to 27. Should the Fanatic team perform as well as they did in 2007 with winning 2 out of 3 disciplines on Sylt, then they would have an excellent chance to take the 2008 Constructors Title on the PWA. This would be a great honor for Fanatic, especially since all the Fanatic riders are only competing on Sebastian Wenzel´s custom or production shapes, unlike the other brands riders who use boards from any shapers they choose!
