In The Spotlight – Adrien Bosson

In The Spotlight – Adrien Bosson

Today we are featuring French Freestyler Adrien Bosson in our Fanatic Spotlight series. Adrien just missed the Top 5 in the PWA Freestyle Tour 2017  but  is also performing in the waves – on Maui he is doing quite impressive Aerials right now! He also runs the Windsurfing Center in Six-Fours-les-Plages in summer. Read more about him hereafter!

Let’s rewind to the start of 2017 – how are you looking back on the season?
2017 was a short season with pnly two Freestyle World Cups, which made the tour pretty stressful as there was no room for mistakes. In the end I am satisfied with 6th place overall. All the top 20 guys are sailing really good, the level of everyone is very equal now. We all do the last and most technical freestyle moves, so to make the difference during the seven minutes heat is getting harder. But it is definitely more fun and interesting.

Highs and Lows?
Best moment this year was the EFPT event in Tarifa. The conditions were super extreme with strong wind. It was my first time there and I won the event after two Double Eliminations.
Most disappointing moment was probably on Sylt, I lost a really close heat against Francesco Cappuzzo and missed the 5th place overall.

Did you do anything different in terms of training and did it make a difference?
Last year and this winter I spent more time at home in Six-fours and it was a little more tricky to get the right conditions for training but it definitely keeps me more motivated to go sailing and having  fun on the water. Actually I always try to keep the fun and enjoy
my sailing, like that I train and sail best!

What is your favourite board in your portfolio you would never toss?
Without a doubt the Skate 93, I can pretty much sail it in every kind of conditions.

Who do you look up to and why for inspiration in windsurfing and outside of the sport?
In general I look up to my family and friends at home who are working hard and like what they are doing. Being on top of your game and pushing your limit is a good inspiration to me.

What advice would you give to young groms looking to follow in your footsteps?
To keep windsurfing as a fun game, go sailing whenever you can with your friends and to never give up of course. The rest will follow.

Who do you credit as part of your success?
Probably the love for the sports, I don’t get bored of it and enjoy every aspect of being a professional windsurfer.

Where do you see your future in the sport/immediate and long term plans?
For now I want to keep doing competitions, travelling and making videos. The goal is to go as far as I can. I don’t know yet when it will end and how long I can keep doing freestyle on high level but beside that I’m running my windsurfing school in Six-Fours and I have few project to develop it. This is something I really want to focus on the next years.

Funniest moment on tour from 2017?
The late forward from Julien Mas in Fuerteventura… This was priceless!

Turns or airs?
For sure turns, I love waveriding – it is such a great feeling and so different to Freestyle windsurfing.

Home or Hawaii?
I love going to Hawaii, but I will always choose home if there are the right conditions for sailing.

Thrusters or Quads?
I’m using Quads most of the time but I really like the Stubby when conditions are onshore.

High boom or low boom?
High boom for Freestyle and lower in waves.

Big winds or big waves?
I’m sailing more in high winds than big waves. I would love to ride big waves one day, this must be epic.

What do you expect from your winter training and what skills do you want to improve?
I was in Cape Town in January with the Fanatic team, as always I had an amazing time there and enjoyed incredible conditions. I practice the Double Culo since I’m back home, I really want to land it! Right now I am on Maui – normally a good place to train in April, however this year we have lots of rain and conditions are a bit tricky.

Finally, what are you looking forward to in 2018?
Good times and looking forward to my results at the end of the season!
