Fanatic riders Kai Bates and Jake Jensen have joined the Honolua Surf Co.’s Ultimate SUP Showdown adventure at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. The event was like no other with Racers and Surfers coming from all around to compete in both a Surfing and Racing focused event. After two full days of World-Class Surfing and Racing action, it all came down to the 15-minute ‘Showdown’ grand finale, a Slalom Sace in the surf that featured a who’s who of the paddling world. Jake Jensen finished 4th in the Qualifying & 8th in the Final Showdown.
In the Surfing event, the conditions were really fun with 2-3ft waves and clean warm conditions. Kai Bates finished 3rd place behind Zane and Kai – agreat result! Jake also surfed really well and got thru rounds to make it to the quarters.
Kai Bates: « It was a hard final due to the minimal waves and high level unfortunately I didn’t get the waves I wanted to come away with the win, but I´m super happy to make it to the finals and had so much fun in the waves on offer. It was great to have the opportunity to race against some of the best in the world and happy to finish in the Top 3 in Surfing. Cant thank Fanatic enough for their continual support, looking forward for the next few events coming up in California. I also had made it thru rounds in the races winning my re-qual heat and getting to the top 8 surfers and racers in the front line of the Final Showdown. »
