Stage 8

Stand Up for Safe Water

During stage 8 of his SUP expedition for safe water, the cargo ships were constant companions for Thomas Oschwald - even in the Rhine delta in Holland. They are huge and they call them "whales of the Rhine". As long as you don't get too close to them they are absolutely safe though. The danger lurked rather on the seemingly safe shore. Strong rapids could only be mastered near the shore, but this increased the risk of getting caught on a stone and falling. Paddling while seated eliminated this risk and so Thomas was able to master places with strong currents safely.

Anyone who wants to get involved in clean drinking water and support Thomas Oschwald's drinking water project will find all the important information on the Teach & Travel website.
